".Engagement starts with rapport.
Learning happens when engagement collides with knowledge."
Below I have summarised and linked my responses to Key Selection Criteria for Victorian Government School.
...
I bring current, practical expertise in the Victorian Curriculum and VCE Vocational Major, embedding literacy and numeracy through authentic, applied learning experiences. My teaching integrates Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and the High Impact Teaching Strategies (HITS) to ensure accessibility, engagement, and growth for every student. By connecting curriculum to real-world contexts and leveraging student interests, I create inclusive, meaningful learning experiences that promote both skill mastery and confidence.
My practice is driven by the High Impact Teaching Strategies, emphasising explicit teaching, metacognition, collaboration, differentiation, and feedback. I plan responsively, guided by evidence on how students learn best, and use a data-informed approach to refine instruction. Through applied learning projects in Digital Technologies and VCE VM, I design experiences that build agency, creativity, and transferable skills, ensuring that teaching programs evolve based on student growth and reflection.
I employ a transparent and structured assessment approach, using assessment for, as, and of learning to support growth across all levels. Students actively track their progress through “I can” statements and shared class data tools, developing ownership and metacognitive awareness. I use data from multiple sources including formative checkpoints, conferencing, and moderation to inform instruction, tailor support, and communicate progress clearly to students, families, and colleagues.
Strong relationships are at the heart of my practice. I build student agency and voice through respectful dialogue, peer feedback, and choice in learning. Collaboration with colleagues is grounded in shared purpose and professional respect, from co-developing curriculum to mentoring in digital pedagogy. I maintain transparent communication with parents and the wider community, ensuring engagement is culturally responsive and inclusive. This relational approach supports learning, wellbeing, and authentic community connection.
My teaching reflects the Department of Education’s values of responsiveness, integrity, respect, accountability, leadership, and human rights. I model these daily through inclusive practice, authentic assessment, and reflective improvement. Ongoing professional learning, from DET training to digital certification and emerging AI pedagogy, informs my classroom and leadership practice. I see teaching as an evolving craft, grounded in reflection, curiosity, and a commitment to equity and lifelong learning.
